The Australian Kookaburra was first issued in 1990.
It is a series of silver coins depicting the iconic bird, whose name is derived from the word "gugubarra" from the Wiradjuri Indian tribe. First Nations people, who have lived here for tens of thousands of years, have told numerous stories about the Kookaburra and it has subsequently been featured in contemporary Australian art and literature.
The coin depicts a kookaburra in flight over a ravine with a snake in its claws. In addition to the inscription "KOOKABURRA", the design includes the weight of the coin, the purity, the date 2024 and the mint mark "P125" marking the 125th anniversary of the Perth Mint.
The obverse of the coin features the likeness of His Majesty King Charles III's Dan Thorne and the monetary denomination.
Each coin is housed in a protective plastic capsule.
